2020 BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS GRADUATE

EMPHASIS IN PAINTING

I think of my paintings as a safe space, one that exists without fear and uncertainties that may arise in the human experience.

My points of departure are migration and spirituality, and particularly the bridge between the material and unseen world. I rely on my understanding of spirituality, how it was taught to me, and how it plays a role in a person’s ( or the collective’s) journey towards finding their personal truth and self-actualization.

Through painting, I seek to manifest forms that will flow as if there are no borders or binaries and a platform to show what it is like to be a non-binary child of the diaspora. This is the manifestation of a process rooted in surrendering to change, the only constant; this is all a moving target anyway, maybe change is my identity.

CHECK BEHIND THE SCENES OF HER THESIS PROJECT

BFA THESIS PROJECT

For BFA Show I proposed a series of four paintings in which I referenced a combination of personal photographs, taken by me, and some found images.

Each moment depicted is a manifestation of a process rooted in faith, trusting one’s intuition, and coming back to a deep breath. I combine written text, collaging, painting, and installation to explore how spirituality and migration play a roll in building one’s identity and what it’s like to be a non-binary individual navigating space.
